FINDING OUR WAY BACK TO REGULATION
Finding our way back to regulation is the number one, most significant skill we can learn in life. It benefits not only our mental health and family relationships, but also our physical health, our work, and our communities.
Dysregulation happens. Our nervous system moves through states of regulation and dysregulation all the time. But sometimes we find ourselves getting dysregulated more often, or more intensely, and it’s harder to get back to regulation. We may find ourselves in extended periods of dysregulation where we feel stuck or trapped in distress, and we question if we’ll ever feel back to ourselves again. Frequent, intense, or extended experiences of dysregulation take a toll on our minds, our bodies, and our relationships. Fortunately, we can learn how to find our way back to regulation. Having a safe, skilled practitioner to guide and support us in this process is paramount.
When we’ve developed the pathways to find our way back to regulation we experience greater ease in navigating life’s challenges, more contentment in ourselves, and increased connection in our relationships. When we look back on our lives, these are the things that will be the most important and meaningful.
